How do you start a driver/device?
« on: February 07, 2007, 09:03:16 PM »
hi folks
got a problem that has me stumped last few days
got an onboard AC97 sound, drivers are installed but no sound.
went into the driver properties and it says "device or driver(can't remeber which one is it) enabled but not started", therefore everything in sound devices is grayed out.
btw my Plug annd Play Enumerator is enabled.
any suggestions?

Uninstall and re-install the drivers and follow the onscreen prompts to make sure it is loaded on startup...

been through all that before but did it over again just now, just in case i missed somehting. tried old and new drivers also.
when i check the device properties i see " Driver is enabled but has not been started"..it should be saying "Driver is enabled and functioning properly".

i found this thread concernign people with similar problems but no solution for ones like mines http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1066427444

let me know if you have any ideas as what to try..besides buying a new motherboard lol

Now i remember.
I'm gonna go rest my brain for awhile ...meanwhile double check all your settings for sound in Control Panel and verify it is the proper driver.

Patio i did notice that none of the sound related drivers were starting up in the boot.ini
i also shut off the 'fast detect' in the boot.ini
still nothing
will a Windows repair work as a 2nd to last resort?

Before resorting to a repair install do this : Start / Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter...have your XP CD handy as it will ask for it.

Have you dis-abled any services on that machine ? ?
