IE 6 Not Detecting Lan Connection
« on: March 02, 2007, 10:56:52 AM »
When going to IE6, will not display any web sites, but Mozilla Firefox works just fine and Outlook email works. Have also been able to ping at command prompt to various sites so I know my network is ok.  Also when going to ie6 internet options, connections tab the lan settings button is grayed out. I do not not think it is a virus but maybe, I have ran anti virus program and spy programs nothing showed up. Can some one help? Thanks

    Chuck83..... Welcome to Computer Hope.
A bit of additional information would be helpful.
    For example :
What O/S are you using ?
    When did this issue start?
Do you have other machines on your network?
Do you have IE6 set as the default browser?
Did this issue start after doing any updates ?

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

OS is Win xp home edtion spII, 1 other computer a laptop on network also ie6 works good. I did have ie7 on computer thats not working now when I first had the problem. ie 7 was working ok for about 2 months last week i started getting "this page cannot be displayed" when i launch ie, I thought removing ie 7 would help but it didn't. no recent updates. I really do not want to reload my os, is it possible to just re-install ie?

control panel add remove programs.  something i didn't figure out till last night. It was only my computer account that was affected. my wifes account, ie worked just fine. I'm not sure how ie could be turned off for 1 account and not others. but after saving my important files i deleted my account and then created a new one and ie is working again for me. i guess something became corrupted in my personnal settings or maybe changed by a virus or spyware program although i still can't see any evidence of a virus or spyware with my security software.

Run all your anti-malware apps in safemode with system restore turned off just to be sure...
After that you can DLoad and run Hijack This and post a log in the Computer spyware and virus thread and we'll have a looksee...
