Shutting down bad for my computer?
« on: October 15, 2004, 11:59:19 PM »
Many people keep their PCs running day and night and never turn them off.  I heard this was better for your computer something to the tune of,  every time you restart a small shock of electricity is created, and when done day after day, it deteriorates the motherboard.  Is this BS?  I've got a laptop replacement and wonder if I should keep it on all the time or not...

This is not a problem with modern computers.  My laptop is 7 years old and still going strong.  Switch it off

I think keeping it on causes more wear 'n tear than shutting it down.
