USB Flash Drive, not working in windows98
    « on: April 09, 2007, 02:04:29 AM »
    Hi,

I have Twinmos, Mobile Disk Z4 (K24), USB 2.0 flash drive. It is working properly in windows XP. But I want to use it in Windows98. I also download windows98 drivers from Twinmos website but they are not working. I have a Pentium II laptop that do  have only USB 1.0 support. But my Flash Drive is working just fine with Windows XP, except when I insert it in USB port, it gives me a message that "The device can work faster if used on USB 2.0...".

I just want to use it with windows 98. Any suggestion and help will be greatly appretiated.

    Thanks
    Wahab

      Win98 original or Win98SE?
Windows 98 has some difficulties with USB devices
USB support in Win98 original was pretty flakey and most USB devices
and device drivers work with 98SE only.

If you could get your hands on USB mass media driver that might work.

I have 98se at work myself and cannot get any flash drive to work,  tried 3 different kinds*....?

Hi, thank you for your response. I have download the file and will check it. Yes I have Windows 98se. When I insert my Flash drive with windows98se, it detects it as "Flash Disk" and ask me to provide drivers for it. On the manufacturer website, I found only an exe file as a driver. There is no .inf file to download. When I run that file, it asks me to restart your system and when I restart it again repeat the same process.

Anyway, I'll check it and will inform later.

        Thanks again,

        regards

I can't say for sure that this would solve your problem but I believe it might:  Rosewill NEC 4+1 Port USB2.0 PCI CARD Model RC-101 .  It would add USB 2.0 to that Win 98SE machine.

So, this is a generic driver for USB flash drives for Windows 98SE, one that may work with different brand drives.  I wonder why they put the n in the name.  Makes no sense.

I have a PNY flash drive that I've used with Windows 98SE.  I downloaded a Windows 98SE driver from their website.  It worked fine.
