    Dial Up Connection
    « on: April 12, 2007, 05:23:15 PM »
I'm on a Windows XP Home, SP2 using a Toshiba laptop, using a Wireless Modem, and constantly I have a window pop up asking me if I want to connect to the internet using a dial up connection, this thing drives me nuts as it comes up all the time, sometimes 5-10 times an hour, is there a way I can shut this thing off without turning off my wireless internet connection as well?

This isnt a major computer problem, but it might as well be its so annoying, any thoughts on this problem?

Does this happen when you are not on the computer and nothing is running?  Are you surfing the net with wireless when it happens?  If so are you using IE as you web browser?  Do you use Outlook or Outlook Express for your email?  Is it open during this time?  All of these things if configured to do so can prompt for connecting to a dial up connection.

Man those are annoying and my fathers  ummm  AOL  does it all the time, lets try this first....
        did you do this?
To enable your wireless adapter (which you must set under the computer's Network Connections):

           1. Click Start.
           2. Click Control Panel.
           3. Double-click Network Connections.
           4. Right-click Wireless Network Connection.
           5. Click Enable.

        then try this*  :(
Open your browser (most likely Internet Explorer or Firefox ) and go to Tools Internet Options. Click on the "Connections" tab and make sure there is nothing in the white box below "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings." Remove anything that appears (especially AOL). Then you'll want to go to Start  Settings  Control Panel  Local Area Connection and right click and select Properties. Remove any AOL or Dial-up Adapters that show up.
        any luck ?   :-\

As shown in the screenshot, ''My ISP'' is in that box, you sure its OK to remove that? Dont want to screw up my internet connection....

Open an IE page, go to "Tools" at the top of the page.

              Tools/Internet Options/Connections Tab/Mark, Never Dial A Connection.

                fullbug,

                That should work for you.

After you mark "Never Dial A Connection"  also click "apply" then "OK".

I forgot to mention that above.
