how to i get help with hard disk controller-external?

where can i get help for solving my problem with an external hard disk??  windows xp says that my version x86 has to do something with my cmos settings drive type!

    we really require a bit more information on the computer?
    what make model of computer?
    what is the operating system?
    what is the make model of the external drive?
    what is make model of the motherboard?
