What's a good program for burning and playing music..
    « on: July 19, 2007, 09:39:04 AM »
I'm looking for a program that will organize and play my music files and allow me to burn cd's and mp3's. What's the best for this? I've always used musicmatch jukebox but it always runs sluggish on my pc.

I have Windows XP on a Compaq pc by the way.

    Thanks

Windows Media Player has always done a good job of organizing my music and stuff, but I usually use Nero for burning cds. Don't know if this helps but I figured I'd throw my 2 cents out there.  ;D

Windows Media Player works fine for burning music CDs, too.

I've used Winamp, and liked it.    Only for playing music though.   Never to burn.      As far as navigation, creating playlists, etc.,  it worked fine.

After using Winamp,   one day I saw MusicMatch on someone else's computer.  Didn't like it.

        Everyone has a personal favourite.
For me, it's Creative Mediasource or VLC to play my music, and usually Cyberlink Power2Go to burn it.
Creative Mediasource can also burn CDs.

What version of MusicMatch do you have?  Have you tried an older version?  I've never updated to anything newer than 7.5.

I prefer Limewire...simple & has free or pro depending on your needs.

I'd have to disagree. If you are using Limewire then you are most likely downloading pirated data. We do not wish to encourage this; so for the OP to begin using this program after your recommendation then we'd have 'failed'.

Personally I use WMP11 for playing music. I don't burn music too often, though if i did I'd use WMP or Nero. For files that don't play on Vista I use VLC. But for me thats not too good at playing music, don't have a clue why, and I don't care because WMP is more user friendly in that regard anyway.

I'm going to be burned at the stake for this, but here goes...

I like to use iTunes to rip CDs and convert them to MP3.  Then I just use iTunes' burn function to make either audio or MP3 CDs.  iTunes can be a bit of a resource hog, especially on slower machines with little RAM, but it serves my purposes with music and podcasts nicely.  I also get most of my music from the iTunes Store.  Good quality music for cheap.

I read a news report on foxnews.com recently that said they found out that itunes imbeds personal information on the tracks that you buy and stuff. It was a very interesting article, not sure if it's still on their website or not, should be cause it's not that old...

That depends on whether you buy the "normal" tracks or the DRM-free tracks (for nearly double the price).  Yeah, if you buy the normal ones, some account information is embedded in the songs you buy.  That's just how Apple's DRM works.  The DRM protected WMA files you buy from Napster and Ruckus contain personal account information, too.  The only problem with purchasing music from the iTunes Store is that it will not play on any other media player.  For some reason, Apple won't share it's DRM technology with the rest of the media world.
