DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER
« on: August 25, 2007, 01:17:20 PM »
When I opened my computer, the POST screen showed and a message at the bottom says  "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" and it says that everytime I try to reboot it with the power button. So what does that message mean and how can I fix it? (I cant open my CD rom drive to put in a disk neither nor do I have a floppy disk drive) My pc is a AOL 9.0 Optimized.

     ???
"AOL 9.0 Optimized" is a program not a brand or type of computer.

Check for any documentation you got with the computer for the specifications on it or a brand and model number listed somewhere on it.

What version of windows where on it?
    When did the problem start?

Is the hard drive detected when the computer starts? Usually you will see a list of detected hard drives and cd/dvd drives when you power up the computer. If you don't see a list of devices at startup try entering the bios and check if the hard drive is listed there.

Yes, the hard drive is detected.

If there is a floppy drive in that machine remove the floppy and re-boot

If the hard drive is detected in bios and you dont have any removable storage devices plugged in including usb pen drives, usb external drives, cd roms, floppy disks then it means that the boot sector is not working properly.

So get the hirens boot cd (if you manage to get cd drive working) boot from it go to partition doctor and chose fix mbr, then restart the PC

Of course at your own risk, I would advise taking it to a shop to get fixed though
