I have an IBM Intellistation that beeps loudly every time a window pops up or emails come in. I looked in the BIOS and couldnt find any settings that deactivated the audio, so I tried in Windows XP's control panel (sounds- and audio devices). There I deselected several sounds that were located to different windows happenings, but none shut off the noise when pop-ups occur.
Because I dont really want to have any noise, I tried to open the small tower but because it is a 2nd hand pc there is no key to unlock the framework. Otherwise I could have maybe cut off the connection to the speaker.
Also I deactivated the "Windows Audio" service in the administration - services section (C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs) but it still cant be killed !
Maybe I deactivated the wrong service, because I think that just deactivates additional audio devices / hardware that are installed separately. I guess the sound chip that I want to deactivate is directly on the moterboard?
