Power Cord: How Hot is Too Hot???
« on: September 17, 2007, 10:22:16 PM »
Hi i just got my new laptop today and its great but i felt the power converter (big bulky thing) and it almost burned my hand - thats how hot it was- so should i report this or is this just normal (which would go against my better judgement) so as stated before is this too hot?

thanks for any help you can provide :)

Out of curiosity I just picked up an old power adaptor that was on my desk.
It had some tiny symbols on it and among them was one indicating a thermal cutout with a temp rating of 115C.

Almost burning your hand would put it around 70C I would think.
Carefully inspect yours to see if you can find any temp ratings on it.

Failing that you could email the manufacturer or look in the book you got with the laptop for specifications, they're usually right at the front or at the back.

Almost burning your hand sounds OK to me but check it out just in case.
