well as i said check disk might rename files to .chk ! what do u think about the S.M.A.R.T it could be a false prediciton and causing all the mess !

The SMART warning means that HDD is ready to fail...backup immediately there may not be much time.

well mate i did everythign u said and seperated both hdd and installed fresh new xp but im still having the problem with folder names(not all of them about 50 %) what do u think ?
