CD Driver is not recognized

every time i put a cd in my computer, my comp says YOU NEED A CD DIVE TO PLAY CD'S. so i checked it out in device manager, and the drive is there. and there is no better upgrade available on the net.. so how can i get my computer to recognize my dvd/cd-rom driver????

If you scroll down the page to the rectangular box named 'Download Guided Help' 127 kb download.This is an auto fix for windows XP and Vista Beta...It may work with your Vista. Just click on the program and follow
the instructions

It didnt do anything for vista. Is there anyway to uninstall vista, and install XP???? and if i did that, would my cd drive read again???

DMA was enabled on both of them. so i turned them off. then enabled them again. and still got nothing.

DMA should be enabled
What do you have listed in Device Manager> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers?

Try updating drivers for both of them. If Intel site says, they are up to date, do it anyway. Uninstall current drivers, and install fresh ones.

First of all, restart your computer, and see if Windows will find correct drivers...

i restarted the computer, and it tried installing a new driver, but it failed and said to get ahold of the company that made it or whatever to trouble shoot it...   so if i delete vista, can i put xp on my computer?

Neither XP nor Vista should need drivers for a CDRom or a burner.
Try that drive in another machine to make sure it isn't the problem.
I would also try another IDE cable...
