Computer not detecting keyboard
« on: October 28, 2007, 11:47:01 AM »
Hello,

I've been frequenting this forum for quite a few months & have gotten some great help from folks here responding to other's problems...hoping to find help for my problem this time.

I can get my computer to detect my keyboard after it comes on. The problem also is that I have a password to enter, so with no keyboard I can't log on. I've tried 3 different keyboards, one brand new, so I know it's not the keyboard.

Also, before I get to the log on window, there has never been a text review so I'd know if the computer has been detecting my mouse, keyboard, etc, as I've had on my older PC's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  ???

Were all 3 of these keyboards USB?

If so,Have you tried a PS/2 keyboard?

    ...Or the other way round?

And if they are USB, have you tried them in different sockets?

Did you unplug a PS/2 plug while the machine was still on?

    Hi,

        Thanks for the responses.

I did NOT receive any errors. The screen looked the same as always, just waiting for me to enter my password after I click on my user name icon.

Yes, all of the keyboards were USB.....and I did try them in different ports (front & rear of computer).

    No, I didn't try a PS/2 kybd

A good reason to have a PS2 keyboard lying around if only for emergencies...a USB needs the drivers to load properly in order to run. PS2 does not.
Everyone should have one and they're not too expensive.

Enter the CMOS setup utility at boot and look for USB configuration settings for the BIOS.  Generally the BIOS provides basic "legacy" support for "mouse" and "keyboard".  You should "enable" this.

      It might say:

USB Keyboard - DOS or Enabled (Even if you have NO USB Keyboard)

      Legacy USB Support - Enabled
