0x0000007B error installing windows
« on: December 08, 2007, 04:46:03 PM »
With a Dell Dimension E520 I get a blue screen error attempting to install Windows XP Pro.

***STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78E1524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I don't think any of the hardware is broken, does anyone have an experience with this sort of problem?

Link Edit
-Thanks

Does it say little bit more, then:
STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78E1524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:
STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78E1524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Try Here

It is specific to Dell's. Even though it says Vista it probably applies to XP as well...

From the link...

"RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, contact Dell to obtain an updated driver package that does not include the Afamgt.sys filter driver. "

I've formated the drive though, what is a "filter driver" and how has it stayed on the drive? Is there anything I can do without have to deal directly with Dell?

If you travel to Dell's website and enter the service tag# from the back of your machine it will list all your drivers...
