I cannnot access any MicroSoft Help Pages
« on: January 28, 2008, 09:06:12 AM »
First noticed that I could not open my Hotmail or Yahoo mail. I get the message that IE has exp. a prob... and must close. When I go to Microsoft help pages, I get the same message when I try to submit problem. Even in my search bars I can't use the terms "Micrsosoft" or "Internet" without getting this message. I am running Windows XP Professional with IE 7.

What search bars do you have integrated with IE?  They, or some other plug-in, may be the source of the problem.

    Try this:

Control Panel -> Internet Properties -> Programs Tab -> Manage add-ons -> Disable "Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer"
Why is this thus?  What is the reason for this thusness?

Also, try Firefox to see, if same thing will happen.

EgODeath, I disabled all add ons used by IE and no luck. Should I re-enable them now.

    Firefox is another browser.
You can get it here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

There's no need to enable them if you're not using Internet Explorer.  Disabling them was just part of the process of elimination.  We now know what is not the cause of the problem.

OK, Firefox allows me to see my e-mails, but I still have NO access to any Microsoft functions which I DO want to access and personally don't see where Firefox has "fixed" anything but just gave me a "back door" to hotmail and yahoo mail.

What Micro$oft functions are we talking about?

Also, with IE, click Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, click on Reset button.
      Restart computer.

I tried the reset and still cannot access Hotmail, Yahoo mail or any of the help programs from Microsoft. It's like my computer rejects all microsoft functions except for letting me go to my homepage. Obviously something is keeping me from Microsoft and I can't get help online from them either and we all know what calling them is like...you get someone in Timbucktoo that can't speak English. I guess I'll have to download Firefox every time I want to read e-mail, and even then I can't get to msnzone.com to play games there. Looks like I'm going to have to pay out the rear for help. Thanks for trying.

I think she's talking about Windows XP Help and Support, and the Help function is any Microsoft application such as Office.  These Help function often include online searches and are probably integrated with IE.

How long have you been using IE 7?  Did this problem start after installing it?  Have you tried uninstalling IE 7, taking you back to IE 6, and see whether everything works right again?

Soybean!  Thanks, this seems to work. So, in the future, do I NOT upgrade to 7? I really appreciate all of your help. I've been on here all day trying to fix this and my head is killing me.  Thanks again. Ellen  (Laura)
