    computer manually shuts itself off...
    « on: January 29, 2008, 02:20:12 PM »
comp I'm working on does a soft shut down on its own.  HP notebook with vista.  I was thinking heat could not cause this sort of shut down.  Usually heat causes it to freeze up or shut down immediately.  Could it be a virus?

Possibly.  Have you scanned it with a current virus scanner/definitions?

yea it's infected.  My scans were automatically disabled in regular and safe mode.  (spysweeper and trend micro)  I understand all the steps and software to get, just wasn't sure if their was a quick change I could make in the BIOS or something.  thanks

No problem.  Glad you were able to narrow it down quickly.
