Excel 2003 hyperlink problem *SOLVED*
« on: February 15, 2008, 12:05:29 AM »
Hi

When I try to open a hyperlink in Excel 2003 I'm suddenly getting:

'This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.'

It happens with hyperlinks to webpages & also to items in the same workbook, so all hyperlinks.

It's happening to existing hyperlinks in previously working workbooks & new hyperlinks.

Thanks in advance for any help...

Do you own this computer or is it owned by your employer or someone else?  Who is the system administrator?

SP3

I found that help page aswell, but I don't think it will help as I think it's a fix for a different type of hyperlink problem.

I can find no reference to the error message I get in Windows support, very poor.

(hey thanks for your help anyway)

I did some searching but haven't found anything specifically dealing with your problem.  You might join http://www.excelforum.com/ and/or http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/index.php and post your question there, too.

Ok, Micros$ft advised me to remove/reinstall office completely which didn't work.

Then, they advised me to reset IE which worked.

Don't quite understand why IE would be interfering with Excel but there you go. Yeah, hyperlink to the web maybe but within the same workbook? strange.

There you go guys, just incase someone else has the same problem.

Thanks again Soybean  ;)

Thanks for posting back with that info.  Can you post one more time and say what version of IE you're using and what part did you reset?  With IE 7, the Security tab in Tools, Internet Options, has a button for "Reset all zones to default level".  And then, the Advanced panel has also has a Reset button.
