"MY COMPUTER" in XP no longer able to read Disk Drive directories

Using "MY COMPUTER" in XP I am no longer able to read Disk Drive directories. It displays all my drives, but when I try to open a drive to view the directory I get the "Open With?" box asking what program it should use to open it.

I have shortcuts to on my desktop to various data folders. If I open a folder and use the drop down and select the drive, it works. (gives my the drive directory)

I have not added anything new (software, hardware). It just stopped working.

Any ideas?

Have you try to run system restore?
