"Floppy drive fail"
« on: March 16, 2008, 04:41:24 PM »
When I try to start computer it just stops with message "floppy drive fail". Replaced floppy drive with brand new one, put in new cables, reversed all connections, been into Bios, all to no avail. Does not matter what disk in drive, or no disk at all. Any ideas?

Welcome to the CH forums.

Having done all the correct things it comes down to a motherboard failure.

Here is the relevant CH reference.

I suspect that Dusty is right. Sounds like the floppy controller may have died.
You might try telling the bios there is no floppy drive. That might get you going (minus the floppy of course.)

Check to make sure the cable is inserted properly in the mother board.
Check also to make sure there is a power connector to the floppy.
Make sure there are no bent pins on the floppy.
Check bios and make sure floppy dis controller is enabled.
make sure the cable is'nt around the wrong way.
Often it is just something small like the above.
