question about Broadcom Windows driver exploit
« on: April 07, 2008, 11:58:21 PM »
I have a wireless B adapter for my laptop but I was thinking of getting a wireless G card since my router is wireless G and I wanted to use the upgraded security features that were not compatible with the wireless B card.

However, I then found this article:
http://blogs.zdnet.com/Ou/?p=365

that talked about some problem that would affect some of the wireless cards.
http://kernelfun.blogspot.com/2006/11/mokb-11-11-2006-broadcom-wireless.html

I found out about it when checking out the page for the model I was thinking of buying (Linksys model WPC54G) and someone said this problem affected that model card.

I was also considering Linksys model WPC54GX4. How could I tell if this issue would affect that model card? If that model is not affected then I would rather get that one instead.

Thanks!

The articles are almost 1.5 years old.
Linksys has most likely released a newer driver by now.
Best way to find out is to go to Linksys webpage and check how old the current driver is for the card in question.
If you can find a change log you may also be able to see when the bug was fixed.

Linksys makes some of the best wireless cards.
As stated you're reading info that's almost 2 years old...

Yes, I know it was an older article. I was wanting to buy the adapter as second-hand (used) on eBay so I assumed that the software driver included with it would have been one from that time period in which the article was written.

I wouldn't buy anything to do with networking from eBay especially wireless...
Others may have some success with this but that's just my opinion.
Too fragile to not have a warranty to fall back on.
