problem connecting to network from laptop
    « on: April 11, 2008, 08:06:13 PM »
hi. i recently bought a laptop with vista already installed in it. i also purchased a trendnet wireless router. i currently have WPA2 PSK / TKIP encryption. the first day i got my router, i easily installed it and connected with my laptop with no problems. i did select the reconnect at logon box. however, when i restarted my computer, i quickly noticed that it didnt automatically connect. so i tried to connect manually. and now it doesnt let me. ive done everything exactly the same, but after i put in my key, i get this popup "the wireless authectication settings on this computer do not match the requirements of this network" oh, and the router is installed to an xp desktop

    any help is greatly appreciated.

          No.
Make sure, that your router, and your laptop use same authentication methods: WPA, WPA2, TKIP, or AES

I think, Vista, by default uses 802.1X authentication type.
To check what's going on, see here: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/d4a8a69a-f885-4766-a991-446031bc32881033.mspx
Click on To enable 802.1X on a wireless network, and it'll show you the way to change it to whatever you have your router set to.
