Sound distortion when using Skype

I have a computer with windows xp home edition with  Skype installed so that I can use my webcam . (no problems)   Just bought a new computer with Vista home edition; loaded Skype and find that the sound is terrible.  The Skype speech test replays voice recording like a robot.   Anybody familiar with this problem and how to correct  (if possible)  Thanks for any info.   cruisebloke

My friend just purchased a new Dell with Vista and the first time we tried the audio, it sounded weird. I went into the sound mixer and it was set for auditorum. I changed it back to room and it was normal. Could this be your problem. Does all your audio sound weird or is it just when using Skpye?
