    i took out the hardrive from an old computer and put it into and external casing to use in my new computer.  now when i try to open the files from the external, it wont let me.  it tells me that i dont have permission.  can anyone tell me how to fix this problem???

    Welcome to the CH forums.

    Do you really expect us to be able to help you when you don't even show which Operating System you are using.

    However, have a look here and please please read this, it is at the start of every forum on CH.

      sorry, i am using vista and the old hard drive was windows 98.  as i am not the computer savvy, i am not sure what other info i need to give.  so if there is anymore info needed please let me know and i will post it
