    Batch changing folder icons
    « on: May 15, 2008, 05:43:49 AM »
Oh boy...I can see this site becoming addictive very fast.  Anyone know out there how to batch change multiple folder icons from the "yellow folder" to a different icon (all the same).  I know how to easily so it for one but was wondering if there was a way to do many at once.  Thanks muchly!!!

It will be easier to guide you after you have posted what you have done already. This will prevent us from taking you in a whole new direction with the solution.

I'm using XP MCE SP 2.  I can right click the folder, go to Properties, then Customize, then Change Icon and pick the .ico file I want.  Is there a way to do 50 folders at once?  If I highlight all 50 folders and follow the steps above that I mentioned, it only changes the first folder icon and not the remaining 49.  Thanks

Open My Computer than click on Tools and look for Folder Options. In the list look for File Folder and than click Advanced.

Be very careful with this as it will make a lot of changes to your system.

Won't this change ALL the folders on my computer?  I'm only looking at changing the icon for some of the folders within a folder.  The intent here is to organize what is in the folder so I can quickly tell by the icon what type of file is in the folder.

How many folders and how many icons do you want to change?

In one folder I have 1244 folders of different topics.  I'd like to group them by  changing the icon on the folder.  I dunno...10-20 at a time?  The goal here is not to have to do this 1244 times.  Thanks

Couldn't find anything to help you out. Folder objects in Windows scripting do not have the icon property exposed.

There are some 3rd party programs on Google that may help.

Should you ever need to change the icon for a shortcut, then this is the place to come first. :D
