    Sound Issues/Video Controller Conflict ?
    « on: May 21, 2008, 05:16:59 PM »
Hi group . I am at a loss here so suggestions welcome . Had a new os installed (xp ) and now i have no sound . Device Manager initially showed no sound device , drivers . After installing new drivers dm now shows these devices but i still have no sound . Audio shows in system tray and speakers get power . All audio codecs show as functional . Only thing i question is reference in " other devices " to a video controller conflict . Since i don't play games maybe i wouldn't notice that  ;D . Could this be the possibile source of a lack of sound ? Also can't find any listing for a video controller when using Everest or SIW utilities  unless thats what they call a video adapter . Would these be one and the same ?
MB is a Biostar and sound/video are integerated . Not sure what to do next .

Re-install the MBoard drivers...this will not hurt anything and will probably resolve the issue...
They will be on the CD labeled Drivers that shipped with the machine.

Ah , but this is a second hand system build so i don't have the original drivers . But i will download and give it a shot . Let you know what happens .

Seems i have more than one problem ..  8)  Let me backup & explain . A new os was installed  ( xp ) & afterward i discovered i no longer had any sound . Device manager showed no audio device or drivers installed . After downloading updated drivers device manager recognized and all audio codecs were operational , speakers had power but still no sound . Updated chipset .Device manager then shows a conflict with video controller . Downloaded update for that . No longer have video conflict but now Audio Controller & Platform device Manager are non-operational . Everytime machine boots i have a different problem & sometimes a specific problem seems to disappear all by itself .  latest install & execute did not take . Windows said i have a serious issue   ;)  Any chance this could be a bios problem ? Or else , my machine has gremlins   8) .

        DLoad and install Everest Home...
Run a report and save it as a textfile...
Copy and Paste the Computer Summary portion and Post it here...

Patio ,  i have Everest on my machine but when i try and run a report it causes my machine to crash/reboot . Same thing happens if i click on audio devices or direct x within Everest . I just ran across an article regarding Windows sp3 service pack that says some people are reporting similar audio issues as mine via sp3 so maybe i will see if there is a safe way to uninstall sp3 and report back .

PS - Booted up this am and sure enough device manager says i have no sound device again .. back to square 1 .

You could try System Information for Windows...
Perhaps it will not have issues for SP3.

            Hey guys

I have tried everything to no avail . Have both Everest & AIW & just installed Belarc . Belarc shows sp3 as being installed but i can't find any reference to it on the computer so as to uninstall . Interestingly enough if i go into help and Support and run My Computer Information it say sound card is supported and requires no update and that i have no obsolete applications or drivers on the system . Seems the left hand doesn't know what the right one knows .  8)
This am i downloaded & installed the audio components again but as soon as the install was completed windows reboots the machine and upon coming back to the desktop i get a windows message saying the system has recovered from a serious error & asks if i want to report to Microsoft . I can live without the sound but i am concerned about whats going on when none of my downloads will either install or if they do install within 24 hrs upon re-boot they have disappeared .

. Had a new os installed (xp )
Who installed it? Did you pay them? Can you take it back to them?
Also, it could be something simple like turning up the internal volume.
Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Volume Control. You will see your volume controlMake sure you uncheck the MUTE boxes and turn up the volume.

The volume control in accessories says there are no mixing devices . The os was installed by a friend who was formerly a microsoft engineer and no i didn't pay him .. but we did share a few brews afterward..  8)

Belarc will report SP3 being installed even if it isn't...this is a known issue.
              Did you install SIW ?

You are missing a driver that enables your sound. Until we find that driver it probably won't work...

Ok , thanks for the tip on Belarc . I do have siw installed . One thing i have noticed regards the motherboard name/description/id listed on siw versus everest . SIW lists as KM266APro-835 ( same as windows ) & Everest lists as BiostarM7VIG(Pro) . Physically looking inside computer i see M7VIG  400 . I am assuming that makes no difference as both Biostar ids list same audio driver packages . Manufacture is listed as VIA Technologies . All of which gets a little confusing to me as maybe i am not downloading the proper sound drivers ? To make matters worse because sound & video are integrated i first have to download chipset drivers & install . And VIA lists multiple ids for chipset drivers as VIA KM 266 , VIA KM 400 & VIA Pro 266 .  Whats your thinking on this ?

Without the SIW report i would be simply guessing...
