Non-responsive adress bar

New Sony Laptop, Vista now suddenly won't allow any input into the adress bar nor into the google search space on the latest firefox...
Using the bookmarks I can access web sites but once there  if they have a search bar; again the curser is there but not able to input anything.
I have zonealarm free, and defender running but everything was fine before with the same software.

Whats more sometimes The adress bar works and then it does'nt

Any thoughts on what may be happenning here?

Have you tried reinstalling firefox?

By 'latest version' do you mean Firefox 3?

Thank you reinstalling Firefox  2.0.014 seems to have done the trick
