    Hi ComputerHope community,

I was just wondering out of interest, what would a Celeron M 1.46GHz be equal to if it were in the form of a Pentium 4 chip ?

Also after that little mind boggling question, which would be better a Celeron M or a Pentium 4

    Many thanks in advance,
    Sean.

A Celeron M 1.46GHz is roughly equivalent to a Pentium 4 at 2.4GHz.  Each may outperform the other at different tasks.  The Celeron M will produce far less heat and will also use less power.
As for what's "better" - better for what?

Thank you very much for the reply, it's appreciated greatly.

The laptop will be used for Course work and generaly lugging around the country when I visit relatives. I would like the battery power to be good but at the same time, not lose processing speed.
General use will include, Office 2007, Internet Explorer, all the standard things such as Anti-Virus and MSN.

      Regards,
      Sean.

Edit: also if I may ask, how did you calculate the rough processor speed ?
I would like to know this for future use.

      Regards again,
      Sean.

That CPU should be adequate for those tasks, although if you have the cash I do recommend a dual core (if you haven't bought it already).
I got the rough speed from here - it's a database of CPU benchmarks.  I won't say it's the most accurate or anything, but it is fairly comprehensive.  Comparing CPU benchmarks can give a rough idea of speed, but it will be different for different situations.

Thank you very much for all your help!  ;D

The laptop is pretty much bought already, second hand. I'm only a College student so I dont have that much cash anyway.

        Regards,
        Sean.
