    Scanner message "fail load"
    « on: July 23, 2008, 11:17:42 AM »
I have a Mustek 600 III EP Plus parallel port scanner that I am trying to install to a Dell Optiplex GX260. The  scanner was working fine on my "old" computer. I have researched and read  several suggestions; none of which helped. I have checked and ECP mode is enabled. When I try to use it, I get the message " fail load".  When I go to scanners and cameras, it does not appear there. It shows no scanner at all. I have reinstalled it 3 times.  I hope some one has the solution to this. I also downloaded a new driver.

What OS are you running? Have you got the right drivers for that OS? Is it the same OS as on the old computer? In particular, have you moved from Windows 98/ME to Windows 2000/XP/Vista? parallel port scanners are pretty old nowadays, I had an Agfa one about 7 years ago, it never worked properly with XP, kept vanishing. I think you may have to bite the bullet and get a modern scanner. That Mustek was a new model some time around 1996!

I went from XP to XP Pro. Yes, I have the right driver.  I do realize it's  an old scanner, but it was still working well and if I can get it going again, I'd like to keep it.

The scanner is to old to work with the new stuff. I had the same scanner and had the same problem. I even tried to use the wrong drivers to get it to work with XP and it still was a no go.

I got a new one from tigerdirect.com for $49.00 and it worked first shot.
