I have a 1 1/2 year old HP laptop running Vista with current Norton Virus protection. Today I ran live update and a scan everything was fine, after having downloaded a couple of media files from net. Other than a very slight discoloration on the left 1/3 of the screen for a month or so it has run well and given me no problems. Am using backup Toshiba to send this message.
First symptom was screen went black and a older media file started running. Have a few saved to desk top, so simply thought I started it accidentally. Closed it, but a few minutes later another one started and I closed it, was concerned at this point Norton missed a virus. Went about checking email and screen went black, moved mouse pushed buttons and came back. Moved up all security from medium to high thinking the problem was there. Rebooted thinking this might download any new Norton. Got the message saying did not start properly and saw safe mode and other choices. Started it normally, within a minute or so kept going back to black screen, like a hibernation. Turned it off and tried starting in safe mode. Would not allow. The first flash on screen I see, when starting is normal page, for 1/2 a second. Screen then turns black and remains so, will not respond to any commands.
Even with head set plugged in, hear beeping sound out of speakers when trying safe mode buttons. Also blue wireless lite on front has gone to orange. Indicating no wireless. Blue lite returned after computer was on for awhile. Right now it is a worthless paper weight. Can't get it to do anything at all, totally and completely, absolutely useless. Sorry it this seem lengthy.
