Laptop Not Charging

Windows XP
Service Pack 3
1g Ram
Laptop is around 8 months old.

Ok now I have that out of the way ill explain the problem in detail:

The laptop works when the power cable is plugged in, the charge led at the front comes on as should be expected, but the battery does not charge I have replaced the battery with a new one; 100% the correct voltage and the power cable is good.

I am stumped as to what the problem could be.

I am thinking motherboard fault?

Edit: I did a few searches on Google, pointing me in the direction of charging circuit fault? Is there a definitive way to confirm this?

Did this charger come with the laptop?

Hmmmm....and it's not charging......

Laptop is around 8 months old.

Is it still under warranty? (most laptops are sold with a one year warranty)

In the mean time, I will do more searching....

Don’t believe so; it is not my laptop.

I have searched Google to no avail, but cheers for the help.

The only thing I can find that does not involve taking apart the laptop would be to reinstall the MotherBoard Drivers.
(You can do this by going to the Manufacturers Website and looking the exact Laptop Model and under Drivers and Downloads)

Just to clarify does reinstalling the Motherboard Drivers involve a complete system restore?

Ok cheers I will try that now.

System restore, I don’t mess around with the mother board very often, I just jumped to the conclusion that it would be a big job; being that it is a big part of the laptop.

Carbon sorry to waste your time but; the guy who owns the laptop just came in and told me that the laptop is infact running using a power cable that he borrowed from his friend for the same laptop; the only different being its a two pin plug with an adaptor to convert to 3 pin.

Sorry again and ill keep you appraised of the situation, but I am guessing this is the problem.

Yeah my first assumption also, but when evidence is presented to the contrary; what’s a tech to do.
