    Clearing A BIOS Password
    « on: September 13, 2008, 05:43:52 PM »
Please help us. We have a Dell Inspiron 1501. It only has 512 MB and we tried to upgrade it to a 1GB. When we put it in, our laptop quit working. We were told to run the set up button at time of restart (f2) But it has a BIOS Password and we do not know it. We were told to clear it by finding the dipswitch, but we have no clue where it is. Does anyone know where it is or how to clear the password so we can add more memory please?

Remove the CMOS (round battery) from the motherboard for about 30 minutes...then put it back in.

Make sure the computer is off and unplugged from any power supply...and keep yourself grounded.

    Then reboot the computer.

We could not find no round battery. It is There is a long battery and we took it out and put it back in after 30 minutes and it did nothing. Do you know where else the dipswitch could be located?

Wait, is the round battery on the motherboard? We couldn't get to the motherboard though. We even took out all the screws but one end wouldn't pop off.

We popped it out and waited 45 minutes and put it back in, but it didn't work either. Dell said it is not under warranty and would not help us any further either.
