If you don't have time to do it right
...when will you have time to do it over?

BIOS is a program on a chip...already attached to your motherboard.

Unless you have a motherboard with no BIOS chip...

Do you want to update your motherboard BIOS to a more recent version?

If so, go to the Asrock site and look in "downloads" for BIOS updates. Follow the installation instructions precisely because a mistake can make your board unusable.

I've never had the need to update a BIOS.  I'm not saying it never needs to be done, but it's a procedure that, if not done correctly, or sometimes, even if done correctly, causes more problems than it solves.

I would explore other options before updating the BIOS.

Updating the BIOS to get a CD to boot is a very bad idea and may produce an expensive paperweight when completed...

Seconded very strongly. I'd also like the extend that for most firmware and Video BIOS upgrades as well.

Ever since I turned my old CD-burner into a paperweight, and subsequently the hard drive on the same cable- I've been leery of hardware-based software.

I have an Asrock mobo in my OLD computer that I've been upgrading.
The board is probably about seven years old.  Some years ago, I did a Bios upgrade to the mobo.
During this last upgrade, I've added ram, to the maximum that the mobo will hold, installed a new Gigabit Wireless Card and new SATA hard drives.

I thought it would be pertinent to try to upgrade the bios.
I was surprised, that with a board that old, there was indeed a newer bios than what I'd gotten before.

I'm a PC tech with years of experience, but I still say a few prayers, cross my fingers and hold my breath when Flashing a Bios.
Just one little mistake on my part or a Glitch on the install floppy disk and the install can just go horribly wrong.  Then it's off to the computer wholesale house to buy a new motherboard.  In the case of an old one, like my Asrock, I'd be buying a new mobo, CPU chip and RAM.

Oh, by the way, my Bios upgrade went off without a hitch.  The system is running like a new one today.  With the two gigs of ram and a SATA hard drive, Vista Ultimate is running on it like a champ!!

When some piece of hardware has quit working in a PC, it's almost NEVER a fault of the BIOS.  Beyond just resetting it, I'd not advise ever messing with it.

                Cheers Mates!
