I have an Asrock mobo in my OLD computer that I've been upgrading.
The board is probably about seven years old. Some years ago, I did a Bios upgrade to the mobo.
During this last upgrade, I've added ram, to the maximum that the mobo will hold, installed a new Gigabit Wireless Card and new SATA hard drives.
I thought it would be pertinent to try to upgrade the bios.
I was surprised, that with a board that old, there was indeed a newer bios than what I'd gotten before.
I'm a PC tech with years of experience, but I still say a few prayers, cross my fingers and hold my breath when Flashing a Bios.
Just one little mistake on my part or a Glitch on the install floppy disk and the install can just go horribly wrong. Then it's off to the computer wholesale house to buy a new motherboard. In the case of an old one, like my Asrock, I'd be buying a new mobo, CPU chip and RAM.
Oh, by the way, my Bios upgrade went off without a hitch. The system is running like a new one today. With the two gigs of ram and a SATA hard drive, Vista Ultimate is running on it like a champ!!
When some piece of hardware has quit working in a PC, it's almost NEVER a fault of the BIOS. Beyond just resetting it, I'd not advise ever messing with it.
Cheers Mates!
