    What version of Windows?

    Assuming it is XP:
Start --> Control Panel (classic view) --> Sounds and Audio Devices --> Sounds Tab.
From there, choose Start Windows under Program Events and change it from there.

Note: Windows Sounds are located in C:\Windows\Media

Does it have to be a .wav file?
If you don't have time to do it right
...when will you have time to do it over?

In my experience, other files didn't work.....So I would assume so.

This topic inspired me to make a tutorial with Wink. Hopefully I can get it uploaded.
When it is, I'll post the link.

SaviourPC? or did you kind of give up when we switched to HTML?

Don't forget to post it in the planned contributions thread I made at Sav... oh wait, HA! You can't see that part of the forum! HA HA HA!

*Ahem* My apologies, that was rude of me.

And- for the record- the file needs to be a WAV file for a very simple reason- the startup sound is played by Windows using a function call PlaySound() - it only supports WAVE format.

Yeah, for SaviourPC. I originally made it as a Flash tutorial, and it doesn't feel right if I convert it. :(

yeah- we've I had to redo mine 5 or 6 times just ot get the size down, and then we nixed the flash thing. Not so bad really, since I just had to delete some frames...

No one has asked what song.....

It can also be longer than 10 seconds...that's the default.

I heard it can't be over 30 seconds, not sure.

Ummmm.....I'm not sure exactly what's happening to the tutorial, so I went ahead and uploaded it:
