Home Page Settings
« on: March 15, 2005, 01:53:03 PM »
My computer will no longer let me decide what i want to set my homepage as - whenever i change it in the internet tools menu it immediately reverts back to a random search page.  I have also tried resetting my web settings but this didnt work.  Can anyone help? I think it may be to do with spyware or something as I also have recurring pop-ups which i cant get rid of.  Thank you

       marblesmells......Ok ....Here's what to do ......
Close up everything , then run hijackthis.......click on config and in the 4 URL boses .......enter http://www.msn.com  .......you can change this later.....
Next click back .........now mark for removal .......the following......
      ALL  R0 entries
      ALL  R1 entries
      All R3 entries
      All 01 entries
      All 015 entries

ok now click on "fix checked"

now reboot and see how thing are ......if they look ok ....
rerun your anti virus and your antispyware .......

Let us know how you make out

OK, I deleted all the RO and R1 files, but there's none of the others, so i restarted the comp and my home page is still hijacked...doing another hijack scan brings up exactly the same items as i previously deleted..what am i doing wrong?

marblesmells...... I'm not sure I understood exactly what you removed .........Did you remove ........
        All R3 entries
        All 01 entries
        All 015 entries
you only mention removing the R0 and R1 entries .

If you failed to remove any ........then it will just return .....and the other possibility is that I may have missed an entry as well ........( there were so many that could have been causing the trouble ) ..

        Please post another logfile ......

sorry, i mean that most of them have gone but the RO and R1 are still there and i think it's these causing the problem cause they're coming up with the web address thats set itself as my home page.
I've posted the more recent log file. Cheers
