Newer ATA HD with older Mobo?
« on: March 25, 2005, 07:34:26 AM »
Sorry if this has recently been talked about or listed elsewhere. I tried a search, but didnt know how best to word it...

I have an older PII 400 Intel/Gateway 440BX mobo (100Mhz FSB).....I was given a newer Maxtor DiamondMax+ 8 40GB (ATA-133) HD....

I get beeping from the POST as soon as the computer powers up, and if I go into the BIOS, the HD is not detected.

I guess my question is, can you use a faster HD on a slower FSB?
I assume you can use a SLOWER HD on a faster FSB?

TIA for any help.... :)

1.  Yes.
2.  Yes.

FSB does not control IDE speed.  BIOS may not detect HD, if HD is too big.
