    problems with external hard drive...
    « on: November 03, 2008, 05:55:08 PM »
So about a month ago i was using CCleaner and accidentally removed explorer.exe and a few other important...things(?). A friend gave me a copy of explorer.exe and i tried reinstalling it. nothing worked so i just installed a new windows XP professional.  All was fine except i was having problems with my music(and im sure other files) on my external hard drive.  Every time i tried to open a music file and play it with either windows media player or VLC player, i would get the blue screen of death. The screen said i had a BAD_POOL_CALLER or something like that. The technical info for this was: *** STOP: 0x000000c2 (0x00000007, 0x00000C3E, 0xE1747501, 0xF5FFACA8) I wasnt really sure what to do so i downloaded driverscanner 2009 and updated windows fully as to get the newest versions of all drivers. Once, again nothing worked so i decided to change from FAT32 to NTFS. I didnt know what it would do but it seemed to make sense to me. Once i changed my external to NTFS, i got a new blue screen of death(yippy!) that now says something like IRQL not_less_or_equal . Im not sure what the technical info is but im sure i can reproduce the blue screen if necissary.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.  :)

    Thanks.

Have you tried to boot with video, ram, keyboard, and mouse only,
all hardware not needed to boot disconnected,or removed from
    slots and USB connections?

so i havnt been able to reproduce either blue screens, which i think is a good thing.  I think some sort of update solved the problem.   But i still cannot use external devices completely.  I can listen to music on my computer with no problem (as far as i can tell. The problem may reoccur). The music is stored on the external HD of course.  The only problem im having is with Winamp.  Whenever i try to sync my Archos(mp3 player) Winamp has some sort of error and closes.

Impossible (!!) with CCleaner. Tell the truth what really happened.

How is it impossible? I could have sworn i did it...

i was using CCleaner and said i wanted to delete some explorer files(i think internet explorer and explorer.exe are related, thats what a friend said).  Once i got down to some explorer things my computer just froze up and when i restarted an error box came up saying i was missing explorer.

        I swear thats what happened.

Because it is. CCleaner in no way would remove any legit Windows file.

then i have no answer.  I just know i was using CCleaner and my comp froze so i restarted and it said i was missing explorer.  Unless it was some huge coincidence where explorer just got swept away by something else while i was using CCleaner.

Alright. So ive solved all problems except for one.  Now, my external works fine but i still cant sync my Archos 604 wifi.  I cant sync in WMP, Winamp or manually.  WMP and Winamp just close and say sorry for the inconvenience and all that crap.  After i format the Mp3 player and add the four thousand some files it all goes fine for a while.  But soon enough, an error screen comes up and says that either the selected file is missing or the mp3 player has been unplugged... and its neither.

Sounds like an issue with the Archos software...
But seeing how these details are coming late here it's anybody's guess...
