"reboot and select proper boot device..." problem
    « on: November 06, 2008, 07:42:48 PM »
my computer always started successfully but all of a sudden, I started it today and it kept stopping in the beginning. it says:

searching for boot record from scsi...not found

then it comes with another msg saying:

    Boot Failure
reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device
    Press any key when ready

it wont go passed this everytime I restart the computer. can anyone please help me with this problem

I heard that I need a boot disk to insert into the drive but I dont have one.

I also heard that my harddrive simply failed. does that mean I need to buy a new harddrive to solve this problem?

Basic details on your computer, manufacturer (Dell, HP, custom built), how much RAM, CPU (Intel/AMD), etc.
If you're having a problem with a software program, game, or utility what version is it? If you're using  Windows this information can often be determined by pressing the F1 key.

          Im using windows xp
it's custom built, 256 ram, intel CPU
          the error message is:

          1. searching for boot record from scsi...not found

          2. Boot Failure
reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device
          Press any key when ready

Im not sure if Im having problems with the hardware device.

it started occuring yesterday. I didnt install any program, device or anything like that.

Does the machine have a SCSI drive ? ?

Nothing happened prior to this ? ?

Go into the BIOS and check the first boot device. It might not be booting from the hard drive.

make sure that the cables(ide) of your hard drive is still working properly and make sure that the other cable(power) that is connected to your hard drive is working
