XP will not shut down or restart

I am having a problem with my computer it an XP it won't shut  down or restart. Any suggestions on what to do?

Now I have another problem on my XP I downloaded service pack 2 from microsoft it rebooted and now it just keeps rebooting it's missing winsrv that's what it said when I disabled automatic reboot.

You shouldn't install any service packs, if computer is not working correctly.

Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista), type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy.
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it'll ask you for the CD/DVD.
If sfc won't find any errors in Windows XP, it'll simply quit, without any message.

The computer will not boot all the way. It keeps shutting down when I disable automatic shut down it says missing winsrv. The computer didn't come with a CD.

Did you try to boot to Safe Mode?

Yeah I tried that. My friend has a disk that I can borrow next week so I'm probably going to wait on that.
