external HDD keeps "loading" (Gentoo Linux) - (solved)
« on: November 28, 2008, 07:00:45 AM »
I bought a 1 TB Fukato external HDD that I couldn't get to work on my computer.
It showed an icon on the desktop, but in the file manager right clicking it says "loading" forever and ever...
I Googled the product and saw only bad reviews so exchanged it at the store for a 500 GB Trekstor.
The same happens here.

I must add that I have messed around a bit with chmod and chown to try and get permissions (are all set to root) for me, but don't remember exactly what I did  ???

I'm not too familiar yet with Linux, so I hope someone can explain a simple solution, thanks
(using Sabayon Linux, based on Gentoo)

EDIT: solved simply by login as root... it did take two of us to figure that out after 4 hours  ::)
