    Help Windows Media Player question revised

    I downloaded the updates on my computer I think they were part of sp3 .Now Im having problems watching my movies , the screen turns grey when I try to play a movie, I do get the sound ,Anyone have any ideas? Im using windows xp professional, 2.0 dual core intel d 975 bx 2 mb,
     GE force 8600 gt, LG dvd cd burner 4 gig memory This is a Home built computer

      I loaded the free codecs, no more grey screen but, now if i record music the roxio 10 shuts down and the media player wants to start .I tried  the options tool but there is no option to shut it down the player wants to play when I am recording any ideas?

      Find a music file and right click it...
      Choose open with and select Roxio from the drop down list...
      Check "always use this program to open this filetype"...
