hi there, just wondering if anyone could help with this problem as i have tried and failed to sort it on my own.
i am attempting to use a second monitor with my existing laptop. i have done this before with another screen but since then i have reinstalled windows and have just aquired a new screen. my laptop will now only use one screen at a time (if the new external screen is plugged in when its turned on it will use only that, if not then it will use its original screen) so both are working and both connect.
when checking in Control Panel> Display Properties > Settings it does not show a second screen, simply says Display: defaut monitor (on)
i have tried working my way through the windows troubleshooting but have been unable to locate what kind of Video card i have, and even when using the advice given on this website (here
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000258.htm ) i am still unsure, the device manager comes up with "Video Controller (VGA compatible)", using a third party device (Belarc Advisor) states under display "none detected", upon entering MS-DOS and typing debug > d c000:0040 it says only "PCIR" no recognisable names/brands/dates. the make of my laptop is an Aspire 3613WLMi, and so upon looking up its specs on the internet it satest that this model comes with:
Graphics Processor / Vendor: Intel GMA 900
Video Memory: Dynamic Video Memory Technology 3.0
Max Allocated RAM Size: 128 MB
under the "Video" section.
the screen that i am using is quite new, and is a Hanns.G HB171A17" wide TFT LCD Monitor.
so, is anyone able to help? i feel the problem may be to do with video drivers not being configured when i rebooted windows, but am unsure what the next step is, and as i am unable to find what video card i have its quite tricky.. hope ive given enough information, any help would be very much appreciated.
thanks
chris
