I aint being funny but that answer refers to windows 2000!

I have been having similar problems with my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop running Windows XP.

I have run a Dell diagnostics and am gradually getting to grips with it - if I find a good answer I will post it.

          Boot the WinXP CD
Enter the Recovery Console by pressing 'r' when prompted.
Then from the command prompt run "chkdsk C: /r"

and/or remove the disk..take to another machine and install as slave drive..and run
          chkdsk /r on it there...

          Good Luck
