I know the majority of the forum has said yes, I'm inclined to say no.

That is because this is a older "dual core" Intel CPU, where it is really just 2 Prescott cores on one die.

The E7300 is cheap now and is a true Core 2 Duo CPU.

It is based on a new core, both run on the 45nm process but the E7300 uses less power, is cooler and faster, it also has 1MB more L2 cache.

Though you would have to make sure your Motherboard supports it :)

      Compare them here:
      http://compare.intel.com/pcc/showchart.aspx?mmID=36463,36895&familyID=1&culture=en-US

dont forget the good gpu too

      Seconded

        Kurtiskain, that's wrong.
The E5200 is part of the Core 2 Duo family, and the E7300 has a faster clock speed and some more cache.
s-mac, could you explain how your CPU is similar please?
And computeruler, how do you know that CPU will not be able to handle games maxed out?  You don't even know which games he's planning on playing.  Also, some of us work within budgets, so going for the fastest CPU available isn't an option, which seems to be what you're suggesting - your post did confuse me though.

          Sorry Callum...have to disagree.

E5200 is based on two Prescott cores, and is called a Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor.
          http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLAY7
If you read the link on the page for the E5200...
          Quote
          Product Documentation:
          http://www.intel.com/design/pentium_dual-core/documentation.htm
Note it says Pentium Dual core?

E7300 is based on two Wolfdale cores, and is called a Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
          http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLAPB
And if I look the same place as the link on the E5200 page...this one says
          Quote
          Product Documentation:
          http://www.intel.com/design/core2duo/documentation.htm
On which it says Core 2 Duo.

There is a difference also in FSB, 800 for the PDC and 1033 for the C2D

While the E5200 may belong to the 'Core' family it does not belong to the 'Core 2 Duo' family.

Kurtiskain, I can't see anywhere that states the E5200 is based on the Prescott cores - it's a Wolfdale-2M.
You are correct in saying that it's not technically part of the  Core 2 Duo line - my mistake, I don't think I actually meant to say that.  It is however based on a Core 2 Duo architecture, Wolfdale, as the otjer Pentium Dual core models have been based on Allendale, Yonah and Merom cores - part of the Core 2 Duo lines, but cut down.

I can run Sli on that power supply , i could even run a Quad core on that power supply , its not future proof no , but it will be just fine for a few years.

You really need to think before you speak , your giving a lot of miss leading information that could come back and bite you.

              Just a heads up.

Ok, well sorry for seeming confusing there.

It would seem I missed a few important research quotes  :-[ .

The original PCD were 2x Prescott hence the 2MB cache as the Prescotts were 1MB cache. and 1MBx2=2MB cache....(then if i continued reading the site I would have read this)

But these overheated terribly and different cores were tried several times before they sellted n the wolfdale core

I never knew they changed to newer cores  :-[

              I concede defeat lol  ::)
