cursor jumps around document when typing
    « on: February 02, 2009, 06:57:15 PM »
As I type my cursor will randomly jump to previous words in the sentence, a previous line, or anywhere else but where I want it.  I am constantly having to delete and move my cursor back to where I should be typing.  I have already had to do it four times in typing this message.  I have a laptop, so I can't just check the connection.  I have looked at my keyboard settings but do not find anything out of the ordinary.  Any ideas???

Most likely, you're touching laptop's touchpad, while typing.

Thank you for the comment; I am pretty sure that is not the case.  This problem has been going on for several weeks now, and I too thought that perhaps I was somehow hitting the touchpad.  I've even covered the touchpad with paper to make sure I wasn't hitting it.  When I intentionally touch the touchpad the arrow cursor shows up and it doesn't make my cursor actually jump lines.  As of now, in the middle of typing the cursor will literally jump to a different word or line and contining typing.  I think I'm just going to have to take it to have it looked at.  Trying to type papers is about to drive me insane - literally!  :)

Does it happen in ANY program, including posting here?

That jumping can occur when some "heavy duty" CPU sucking applications are running in the back ground. Check for what applications are running via Task Manager. Running Virus Checkers, On-Line Radio,  MsMpEng will do it. If find the the same thing, where the mouse pointer will not even move, and than travels by its own across the screen.

I have looked at my keyboard settings but do not find anything out of the ordinary.
          This includes sensitivity setting correct.
I no longer have a laptop but I think I remember a sensitivity setting for the touchpad.

The easiest way to avoid this problem is to disable the touch pad and use a laptop mouse.  I have the same problem with my Toshiba laptop, but if I hold down the FN key and type F9 it disables the touchpad.  Don't worry though doing the same thing turns it right back on.
