Xp wont boot in normal or safe mode after BSOD
    « on: February 03, 2009, 03:52:05 PM »
Yesterday, i was restoring my ipod and in that process my computer flipped out and BSOD, i then tried to reboot it and it wouldnt, i tryed to boot in safe mode but that also didnt work, it stopped on the driver MDFSYSNT.sys i did some research and i found out that it was a mac driver, this is bad because i am running Windows XP, i also tried to go in to windows xp recovery tool from the windows installison disk and typed in the commands fixboot and fixmbr and those did not solve my problem and my computer will still not boot, i would like to know what i should do next, but i also would like to avoid a Clean XP install because i have some important files and programs on the computer. Sorry for the rant, please help me!!!

    Repair Install of XP

I suggest reading it through paying full attention to the warnings and printing out a copy for reference before starting...

Done properly all your data and Apps will be intact...
Done improperly all your data and Apps will be gone ...but you will have a clean install of Windows.

MDFSYSNT.sys is not Windows file. It belongs to MacDrive , utility, which allows reading Mac disks on Windows computers.
      Sounds familiar?

So, i tried to do a repair install and after 2 hours it said that the C drive was corrupt and could not be repaired, so does this mean i have to do a clean Windows xp setup :'(

Before you do that, run HD diagnostic to see, if you're not gonna be wasting your time: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

I didn't say anything like that. You simply have to check the drive before reinstall attempt.
As to how to run the test, I need to know your HD type.

          Go Start>Run, type in:
          devmgmt.msc
          Click OK.
What is listed under Disk drives?

Most likely, the HD is bad.
            You have two choices:
            - attempt clean install (I doubt, it's gonna work)
            - remove the drive to see, who is the maker, and then run diagnostic test

If it wouldn't run a Repair Install chances are it won't take a clean install either.
