Lost desktop icons and unresponsive mouse
    « on: March 14, 2009, 10:59:30 AM »
My computer wireless mouse does not move the arrow and my desktop icons do not show up on my desktop.  I have changed batteries in mouse and unplugged and replugged from USB  for the mouse and rebooted the computer several time with no luck.  I am running Windows XP. What next. Can anyone help me.

Yes, I checked out the other forum, but my mouse will not work so I cannot search anywhere on my computer to check it out.

My mouse will not respond.  So I can't do any of the things that are suggested in the forums you have directed me to .  I thank you for your quick response, but what can I do next.

Just fyi, starting Explorer.exe does not require a mouse.

Can you use a USB mouse instead of a wireless one? I think that may be the initial mouse problem.

This is a computer problem I am trying to fix long distance over the phone with my mother-in-law.  I will have her to try a non-cordless mouse and see if we can at least get the mouse to work first.  Thanks.  I will let you know how it comes out.

          Ah, ok. I understand.

Try the Non-cordless mouse (preferably a PS/2 mouse - with the round connector) and get that to work first.

          If it doesn't let me/us know. ;)
