CMOS settings

I'm not using my Printer port or the Serial port on the back of my PC.  By disabling them in CMOS, since they are not in use, does it help with system performance, any?

It will probably save power slightly but It won't affect your performance

the only thing it will do is free up IRQ 7(printer) and IRQ 4 and 3 (Com 1 and Com 2 respectively).

But computer now have virtually limitless IRQs to assign their devices to by going through the IRQ 2 pass-through to the second IRQ controller, so freeing up IRQs does nothing really.


it will not boost performance at all.

The Tea Kettle will come to a boil a bit quicker...other than that you won't notice a speed increase.

Actually, that is the reason I asked.  I was sort of fishing for an IRQ-type answer. Somehow I got it in my head that reserving IRQs will help system speed.   Although, I can't really explain how I came to that.  Maybe I got some bad info. somewhere.....thanks all

and then you'll quickly forget unless the laptop you get is pre 1999 and has those ports  ;D

could be more recently- my two laptops from 1994 and 1996 respectively have both, but my new laptop has neither. so sometime between 1996 and this year they stopped. I was just guessing as to when, really.
