- Adjusting Volume Crashes Programs -

I have a Dell Studio XPS with vista on it.  When I turn the volume up or down, I get a pop up with the volume control on it.  This crashes a lot of my programs.  How do I disable this pop up?

it doesn't say anything.  It's a Picture of a speaker with the current volume under it

Volume pop-ups like this can cause programs to crash, especially full screen games. I get the same problem with most games and my HP laptop which has a similar pop-up when adjusting the volume.

Specifically what model of XPS is this?

It's a BRAND NEW laptop. No installs yet besides two games, fire fox, and adobe.

   XPS 1340, Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.4GHz/1066Mhz FSB 3M L2 Cache)

Ok, for that model, the OSD is handled by Dell Quickset. I'm not sure how Quickset works, but if there's a settings windows for it, there might be a way there to shut off the volume OSD. I'll keep looking, but that might be a place for you to start.

I don't see this quickset button they talk about, and none of my buttons in that area do anything like that....

Try looking in the control panel, there's sometimes an icon there for things like this. You'll most likely need to use the classic view to find it.

Also check the Start Menu programs and see if there might be a folder there with a link to what you need. It's gotta be somewhere since it's obviously running.

I went through the start up menu twice, and I don't have anything.  I thought It might be in one of the dell folders, but didn't see anything.  Didn't see anything in the control panel besides sound.  And didn't find anything in there either.  The closest guess I have is the IDT Audio Control Panel, and I didn't see anything in there either.  I killed a bunch of tasks in the program manager to find if I could just guess what program is running and nothing stopped it either.

Re-install your MBoard Drivers and re-enable any processes you have disabled.
Power down and re-boot...

Any better ?

Ok I got the issued fixed, but for anyone trying to figure out what I had to do:

I had to download Dell_QuickSet_A05_R200495 and then uninstall it.
