Invisible virus messing up my pc
    « on: May 02, 2009, 06:25:53 AM »
Ok some kind of virus has infected my pc and its hard to find.  I did notice it launched an invasive scanning program in My Computer looking for "viruses" but it disappeared later.  Now my computer is very slow, freezes a lot when I try to go online or open folders and when I open a folder it looks very strange with the top blue bar missing and the folder I opened looks like a cut out box you can see the desktop behind it almost like the folder wasn't there.  I think my computer has also been heavily infiltrated by spyware to make the online use so slow.  I just want to confirm should I do the anit-malware and anti-spyware and ccleaner actions in safe mode with my online physically disconnected?  I downloaded and installed AVG free latest update but have not run it yet.  I plan to do that in safe mode.  I'm posting my Hijack This log as an attachment and my computer specs are below.

    MS Windows XP Home Ed.
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 2
    AMD Athlon XP 3000+
    2.17 GHz, 1.00GB RAM

PS. Ok in the Add/Remove Programs in Control Program I found these strange programs :
    AnswerWorks 4.0 Runtime- English
    ESET Online Scanner
Image Resizer Powertoy for Windows XP
    Indeo Software
Yahoo Internet Search Suggest and some Yahoo programs (I think I uninstalled those before)

I also noticed something weird about my antivirus.  I cannot install AVG Antivirus and my computer says I already have an antivirus running but I was sure I uninstalled any antivirus programs before my computer got infected.  This is very strange??  My Windows Security Center states I have antivirus but I cannot find the antivirus program anywhere!

Ok I dont understand this but my computer keeps failing to install the free AVG saying theres another anti-virus but I know for a fact there is none since i can't find it on my system tray or Program Files folder.  I even tried to manually install AVG free but I got this weird message below.  Can an expert please tell me what this means?  Why can't I install AVG??

Try to look in the control panel or program files and see if you have the anti virus there. Instead of AVG try using kaspersky anti virus 2009 its the one I'm using right now.

::)  hmm that sounds like a prob i had with one of those it killed my antivirus program" the shield deluxe" it wiped it out and my fire wall
.  it was there one day then it was gone then my PC slowed down it started multiplying it self and everytime i tried to delete it it came back as a diffrent file it just keeps renaming itself.  then it decided to take a hostel takeover on me it locked me out of my task manager and it  finally crash my PC. so essentially i had to reinstall  my  windows xp as of yet i never figured out what it was  . i had an attack before but this one was the worst i had ever seen so far.
my Buddie's PC got hit with it too it hit his from his email program
mine came from tagged.com in my email
                woo hoo

Easy for you cause you have all the things that you need like the drivers for the motherboard, installer for the OS, so your complete. How about me the thing that I've got is the installer for my OS and installer for some programs like limewire, skype, yahoo, etc.  :(.

Why not just follow this http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html first. If you can't do an antivirus step just take note of the problem and skip to the next step. Do any step that you can and mention all the problem that prevent you to complete any step, too. I'm sure that even you can't install any antivirus or any antispyware at least you will be able to perform Step 6: HijackThis so do it and post all logs that you get and wait for the malware experts to come in and have a look at your log. Remember, without log, even malware experts will have a problem detect the culprit.

                    OK HOLD UP PEOPLE.

Karnac, KingPincer, TorrentIt, jason43506, are you Malware Removal Specialists? No. Please refrain from posting suggestions in the Computer Virus and Spyware Section other than redirecting users to the following link:

TorrentIt, I don't know what you're thinking asking the user to Reformat. Reformatting is not always the option when it comes to viruses. And Please Stop Posting Like This With Your Capitals. It makes your posts incredibly harder to read.

Atittaya23 is the only one who did the right thing here. Thank you.

                    Computer1000, continue with steps 3, 4 and 6 here: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html
If you are unable to install MBAM or SAS, rename the installation files and try again.
If you cannot download them, download them on another computer and transfer them over via USB Flash Drive.

You may want to consider posting the three logs in a new topic.
