    EVGA GeForce 9500GT any good?
    « on: May 13, 2009, 07:37:57 PM »
I'm looking to buy a good graphics card...I bought a PCI Ndivia 6800GS like a week ago and it was a piece of *censored*... Here's a link to the 9500GT. Is it any good?

    Thanks

NVidia 9500GT is a low power, casual gamer card. I have one in my system now, it does fine for my purposes. AOE3 level games are best for the card. Crysis level games need better card.

If you are wanting to surf web, do word processing, play a little bit of games now and then and or watch some HD video, DVD's, bluerays (make your pc a HTPC or something), 9500GT does just fine.

ATI's HD4670 might be bit better on the performance for said games for a little higher power consumption but the 9500GT supports PhysX technology.

Check out newegg's link on the card, there's customer reviews there for your information: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130395

Also, for your information, the card I have is the overclocked Gigabyte 512mb version.

Yes, the 9500GT will run it very well. By the way, minimum pc requirements for that game is:

      Quote
•OS: Windows Vista, XP or 2000
      •CPU: 3.0 GHz P4, Dual Core 2.0 or AMD64X2 (or higher)
      •RAM: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
      •DISC DRIVE: DVD-ROM Drive
•HARD DRIVE: At least 7.5 GB of free space
•VIDEO: Direct X 9 compatible video card (Video card must be 256 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for pixel shader 2.0)
•SOUND: Direct X9.0c compatible sound card

It's probably a little late, but if you happen to check, what resolution do you want to be playing it at?  The source engine is fairly CPU dependent but when playing at a resolution 1680x1050 and up, I would suggest a card a little more powerful such as the 9800gt / gtx.

It's a little bit more expensive but it will likely prevent you from needing another upgrade as soon as you try and play something a little more intensive than L4D or play at a higher resolution.

Good luck, and maybe I'll catch you on L4D sometime.

Most likely original poster isn't going to be playing at 1680 x 1050 anyway. Most people don't play games at that level. Just that you don't need to. It's just overkill.

You probably do but the average user is most likely not going to.

Anyone with a 24" monitor or above will.  Some 22" too.  I have even seen laptops with 18" screens at 1920x1200

sure. That's screen resolution but alll I meant was that in game resolution may be different. At least most of people I know were at 1024 * 768 resolution but anyway, i guess we shouldn't argue more than that.

For original poster, 9500GT is good for that game L4D if you are not doing monster resolutions. That's all

Of course, I'd definitely dig for a high definition, uber good card that fits the high def resolution of monitor but that came with a hefty price so I decided it weren't worth it given what I do with my PC.  :)

I was upgrading a comp of my friend's so he could get a quick gaming setup for CoD World at War, as he was being sucked into the gaming frenzy of PC. His PC was fine... Except for the Nvidia 8300GS (lol).

So I decided to only get him a 9500GT for his casual setup.

Worked GREAT (I got eVga brand), and he began to expand his PC playing for a broad range, and now plays a variety games and when I ask him at work, he says the comp runs the game fine.

Point being, if your a casual gamer who doesn't mind not having the pretties pictures, get the 9500GT.
